Lecture at Savoy Place Sir Martin Sorrell CEO WPP

I was invited by Jane Bevan of Firebird PR to the annual lecture of The Windsor Leadership Trust at Savoy Place in London.  The annual lecture was given by Sir Martin Sorrell of WPP who in 25 years has built from nothing, the world’s largest communications services group.  The lecture was interesting giving the themes that this vast company (over 130,000 staff) are focusing on at present.

In terms of geography they are looking at South America, China and India, as the new First Division with the USA and Germany in the 2nd Division, the UK and the rest of Europe is considered to be in the 3rd division.  The lecture focused on things that Sir Martin thought were important (apart from geography) I was interested to hear that he shares my view that 3 important things are vision, a strategy and the implementation in that order. He expressed his admiration for the way McKinsey and Goldman Sachs spend so much on their staff from the first day and throughout their careers, it is no wonder in his view that they are so successful.

Interesting to hear of the work of the Windsor Leadership Trust and I will certainly try to involve myself with their work in the future.

Many thanks to Jane, for the invitation.
