Cairo Children’s Museum Grand Opening

27/11/2012

We were proud to be invited to attend the grand opening of The Children’s Civilization & Creativity Center (fondly known as the Cairo Children’s Museum) in Cairo, Egypt on Sunday 25th November. We worked with Michael Mallinson Architects on the project, which aims to provide a space where children and families can learn about the history and development of their country’s civilization through interaction and play.

Our local representative, Abdel Monim Anwar attended the event hosted by Museum Director, Dr Osama Abdel Warth.

Already since the museum held its soft opening on Easter Monday earlier this year there has been up to 1,600 children a day through the doors, and the staff numbers are up to 80. The museum also appears on daytime education TV on an almost daily basis as it is a popular destination for children programmes.

The project was also honoured at the 2012 Museums + Heritage Awards, scooping the International Award. The trophy is displayed proudly in the museum foyer, protected by one of our showcases.

Abdel Monim said after the event “the grand opening ceremony of The Children’s Civilization & Creativity Center was amazing, and everybody there was happy”.
