It’s all Kicking off in Manchester!

06/07/2012

ClickNetherfield recently completed a high-profile project at The National Football Museum. Now housed within the former Urbis building in the city centre, the museum started life at Deepdale, home of Preston North End in Lancashire in 2001.

Around 2,500 items made the tough selection process to secure a place in the gleaming new showcases we supplied, including the neck brace worn by Manchester City’s goalkeeper Bert Trautmann, who played on after breaking his neck during the 1956 FA Cup final between Birmingham and Manchester City; the ball from the 1966 World Cup Final; and Diego Maradona’s Argentina shirt he wore during the infamous ‘hand of God’ incident.

The museum presents displays detailing events which shook the world including the Valley Parade fire in Bradford, which killed 56 people, and the 1989 Hillsborough disaster in Sheffield.

With art exhibitions as well as the opportunity to take a penalty against a “virtual goalkeeper” standing between real goalposts from the old Wembley stadium, the museum is sure to appeal to more than just supporters of the beautiful game.

Working alongside Wilmslow-based exhibition designers Mather & Co. as well as the museum fit-out team Patton Heritage, ClickNetherfield provided 57 showcases for the project in total, including a wide range of Prism, Mono, Inca and Radian designs. World-renowned for our innovative glass engineering, we also supplied a unique large curved Mono style case with double doors to match perfectly the requirements of the project design team.

Entrance to the museum is free, and visitor numbers expected to hit 350,000 a year.
