Located in Omaha, Nebraska, The Joslyn stands as the state’s premier fine arts institution, housing a diverse collection of over 12,000 works that span 5,000 years of human creativity.
Established in 1931 as a gift from Sarah Joslyn in memory of her husband George, the museum has grown substantially, most recently unveiling the Rhonda & Howard Hawks Pavilion in September 2024. The site now features more than 30 galleries, immersive sculpture gardens, educational spaces and visitor amenities.
On loan from Berlin’s Ethnological Museum, the museum displays a rare pair of painted buffalo robes collected by Prince Maximilian in the 1830s, which have now returned to North America for the first time.
“For the first time in the Museum’s history, we have integrated Native art across our American art galleries, and Native art can be found in all three of the Museum’s buildings.”
