Asian Civilisations Museum

Location: Asian Civilisations Museum, Singapore / Designers: Freeman Ryan Exhibition Design

The Asian Civilisations Museum originally opened in 1997, specialising in the material history of China, Southeast Asia, South Asia and West Asia, from which the diverse ethnic groups of Singapore trace their ancestry. In 2015, the museum expanded, and additional display galleries were created. These opened in 2016, forming the first of two phases to mark the 50th Anniversary of Singapore’s Independence.

With the first renovation phase being designed by Freeman Ryan Exhibition Design, Click Netherfield’s commission was to design, construct and install one hundred and five showcases, combining various custom bespoke designs in response to the highest conservation, security and performance requirements demanded by the client team.

The display cases included a mixture of seamless freestanding and inset wall cases, providing different access solutions; many of which required bespoke support plinths which were specifically designed and engineered to blend in with the museum’s collection.

After completing the initial phase, Click Netherfield went on to complete the second phase of the project – which was successfully delivered on time and within budget – during the summer of 2017.

The Asian Civilisations Museum is the only museum in the region with a pan-Asian scope, exploring 5,000 years of Asian cultures through art, history and cultural connections.
