he Taipei National Palace Museum is a world-class museum that hosts an eclectic collection of treasures originally kept by generations of Chinese Emperors ruling from the Forbidden City in Beijing. The museum is home to hundreds of thousands of historical relics that make up one of the world’s most comprehensive and precious collections of ancient Chinese artefacts.
The entire collection covers 5,000 years of China’s historical and artistic achievements. In 2015, a new branch of the Taipei’s famous National Palace Museum was opened in the southern Taiwanese city of Taibao.
Click Netherfield’s commission was to provide 172 freestanding showcases across the museum in 8 different galleries; all to be earthquake resistant.
The showcases were fitted with DMX lighting control that allows remote control and automatic adjustment in response to the changing seasons and the time of day. This allowed all artefacts to benefit from their ideal lighting conditions to help emphasise the beauty of every exhibit.
The Taiwan National Palace Museum was built to withstand the typhoons and earthquakes that regularly occur in Taiwan. This was a key component of the clients brief; all showcases were designed to endure these natural forces.
