Built in 998AD during the Heian period, Byōdō-in is a famous Buddhist temple located in Uji, Kyoto. Depicted on the ¥10 coin, the temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In its beautiful treasure house, artefacts from the Heian era are displayed. The Phoenix Hall is home to the great statue of Amida, along with many other objects at Byōdō-in which are considered Japanese national treasures.
Click Netherfield designed and created custom showcases to house these precious exhibits; the minimalist design of the display cases was developed to suit the pure design of the gallery, allowing clear visual access to the treasures.
Special cases were designed to house the stunning statues of Ho-o birds, which were once attached to the roof of the Chudo and are now preserved inside the treasure house. All showcases were made of anti-bandit Optiwhite™ glass, which provides a flawless view of the treasures whilst keeping them well-protected in a fully sealed, stable environment.
Completed in 1053, the Phoenix Hall is the temple’s most famous building, earning its name due to its bird-like shape and the two bronze phoenix statues on its roof.
