Featured as one of Wanderlust’s best openings and expansions of 2024, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History aims to reinvent the museum experience via reimagined exhibits and campuses as well as newly added public spaces.
We were appointed to design, engineer, manufacture and install 32 bespoke conservation-grade showcases for the transformed Cleveland Museum of Natural History galleries.
Forming part of a major museum redevelopment, the project required secure, environmentally controlled display systems for priceless prehistoric and natural history specimens, including the world-famous “Lucy” hominin fossil. The showcase package demanded close coordination with Gallagher Design, exhibition fit-out contractors, specialist mount makers, graphics teams and museum stakeholders within a technically complex gallery environment.
The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is home to Lucy (pictured below) – discovered as a humanlike fossil in Ethiopia in 1974 and later classified as a new species: Australopithecus afarensis.
