Managed by Tyne & Wear Museums on behalf of Newcastle City Council, Newcastle Discovery Museum takes its visitors through a journey of the history of life in Newcastle and Tyneside from Roman times.

In addition to focussing on its substantial collections of scientific and technological material, the museum also places a firm emphasis on the maritime fashion and military history of the area.

In this nationally important museum, we have designed, produced and installed, over 150 showcases for the Story of the Tyne, Working Lives and Tyneside Challenge galleries.

Working closely with the Redman Design Associates team and the main contractor, we have succeeded in integrating our primary showcase systems: Inca, Mono, Prism, Radian and Access, into an exciting overall design theme.

The most challenging development within this project was the creation of a massive bespoke case, which had to be built between and around the original cast iron columns of the building, in the Story of the Tyne Gallery. Displaying a huge collection of fine ship models, the case required specially designed adjustable, rolling cantilever brackets, which allow fine positioning of the models, and also the ability to retract the models to the rear of the case where they can be serviced via in-built access panels to the rear of the case structure. The models are carefully illuminated using our Flex fibre optic lighting system.

Our cases in the Discovery Museum illustrate the ability of our in-house teams to meet challenging situations and to deliver the highest quality cases on time and on budget.

ClickNetherfield delivered 150 cases to an exacting specification and on the Story of the Tyne Gallery produced an innovative solution to a very difficult brief.
